Little Sunshine - I See You.
Oh little sunbeam, we know you don’t weep,
We know you scatter laughter in endless streaks.
There’s an entire cosmos in that beautiful brain,
It simply lacks the tracks for the right train.
You’re always at a different platform,
So we keep pulling the chain.
You watch us depart and long for time to stop,
Back to the porch near the parking lot,
Where 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. felt the same,
So tranquil, yet never mundane.
Maybe you grieve the world that couldn’t be yours,
Or maybe you don’t.
But I know you wish we’d stay for just a few hours more.
You cling to that glowing screen just to be seen,
You wait through silence, even on days when the call log stays clean.
You dial again - so untouched by ego, so serene.
You compel me to pause and see,
You leave me quietly grateful, yet helpless.
You teach in ways you’ll never perceive.
I wish I could rewrite fate’s design.
I wish I could reverse the hands of time.
I wish I could shield you from every storm.
Little Sunshine, know that you have been rooted for since the day you were born.
